Palace of Floating Dreams

In the last year a new topic has crept in to Friday night G&T sessions What if we traded in the apartment for a houseboat. Could we do that?

I've never been on-board one but seeing these two I would definitely consider a change of scene.              Right at home on the riverbank.

In the latest Elle UK, there's a mention of Berts Barges, luxury barge accommodation where you're sitting pretty in Hackney, (as pictured) and with Bristol, Little Venice and York coming on stream soon.
Book here.

Life on board looks to be a simple, pared down affair.

I also enjoyed this concept home and with my love of open spaces, on reflection, this may be a better fit with large windows and deck. Designed by architects Jerry Koza and Adam Jirkal in collaboration with Czech architecture firm Atelier SAD, Port X is a ground-breaking housing concept that can be placed on both land and water.

Each modular prefab home features a fully-equipped kitchen, bedrooms furnished with built-in cabinets, and a terrace. Units vary in size from intimate 50 sqm three-module shelters to 78 sqm five-module accommodations perfect for families. The houseboat version comes with a pontoon which allows the building to float on the water.
